After graduating from university, Alison worked firstly for ABC Radio and Television in research and reporting roles, before moving to market research company, Yann Campbell Hoare Wheeler. Then came a move to the UK, where she worked for four years with the Cadbury Schweppes Group in a variety of marketing roles. Whilst at MLC, Alison was responsible for the design and introduction of the first mortgage offset product in the world, which has since become a standard feature of most mortgage products in Australia.

Alison then moved to ANZ's Global Cards division, as Chief Manager for Australia and New Zealand. Included in her achievements at ANZ are the creation of segmentation strategies for both cardholders and merchants, the design of a customer segmented rewards program and the implementation of a multi-national commercial card program.

From 1999, Alison was executive director of Morelands, responsible for designing and managing loyalty programs for card issuers in Australia and South East Asia, finally joining forces with John Reid in 2004 to create Opinion Leaders
